Sesame seeds: supplies running low

NEW DELHI. Although the prices for sesame seeds are rising continuously in India, they are not high enough for traders. Black sesame seed supplies are running low driven by an upsurge in demand in China.

Upcountry demand supports market

Although the prices for sesame seeds have risen, they still range below expecations. Traders report that upcountry demand is good, especially for hulled seeds. Prices have risen by USD 30/mt this week. Further rises are not to be expected for white sesame seeds and prices should remain in a narrow range until October when the new crop arrives. As demand for black sesame seeds has risen sharply in China supplies are running low in India and prices will certainly rise.
