NEW DELHI. Indian sesame seed traders report strong foreign demand and low interest in the summer crop of 2017. Especially Germany, Canada and Russia demonstrate high interest in Indian sesame seeds, while Chinese buyers prefer sesame seeds from Africa.

The summer draws near
The farmers will already start harvesting in the next few weeks. But with a total of 30,000 mt, of which 13,000-15,000 mt are hulled seeds, the summer production cannot arouse any interest. Still, the price reduction compared to last week does not suggest that there is a lack of availability. The behaviour of the prices until the 2017 winter crop enters the market mainly depends of the development of the demand. As always, the role played by the acreage and weather also should not be underestimated.
