Sesame seeds: spotlight on Pakistan

NEW DELHI. Harvesting is in full swing in Pakistan and the quality of the sesame seeds is highly promising. Pakistan is, in other words, a serious competitor for India, where prices are declining.

China also up for competition

Seame seeds have witnessed a further downturn in India this week. Local traders report that hardly any transactions are taking place as it seems that suppliers are trying to avoid losses. Buyers are increasingly turning to Pakistan, where the quality should be much better than in last year's disappointing crop. Chances are slim that exports may pick up in India in the next few weeks.
