NEW DELHI. The 20th China Sesame & Sesame Products Conference (CSSP) is taking place this week. It is therefore quiet on the Indian sesame seed market.

However, the price development in the past few weeks outshines any good roller-coaster. The prices had dropped slightly after the end of the sesame seed call for tenders, but then started at a higher level again this week.

No wildfire in sight

There is no new information with regards to the summer crop. Optimistically, one could therefore say that things are looking pretty good. With the current market situation, bad news would have spread rapidly.

There is still a lack of high quality on the market, but at the same time, the demand is not strong enough to allow prices to rise above the levels of last year. If the weather stays good, the summer crop will at least be able to partly fill the supply gap until the fall.
