Sesame seeds: rain fuels concerns about quality loss

NEW DELHI. Indian exporters are stocking up to meet shipments to South Korea, which is supporting prices. At the same time, rains are now causing concerns about crop quality in other growing regions.

Unstable prices

The Indian sesame seed market experienced a rollercoaster ride in prices this week. After declining at the beginning of the week, white sesame seed prices have since rebounded and are at levels similar to those seen at the end of last week. In the Indian trading markets, prices for hulled sesame seeds with a 99.98% purity are at a level of USD 1,970/mt FOB, the same goods in EU quality are priced at USD 2,100/mt FOB India.
