NEW DELHI. The high price level has currently rendered sesame seeds from India unattractive in the international export market. Buyers are urged to pay more attention to quality when offers are particularly cheap.

Seasonal low

By mid-November, the market witnessed high prices not seen since September 2014. Although prices have now again declined by 150-200 USD/mt, they still range on a 4-year high.

Prices declined are quite normal at this time of year. Diwali is over and upcountry demand has subsided. In addition, the high price level and the upcoming Christmas break has limited enquiries from Europe and the USA. Africa is, in addition, moving more and more into focus. Prices are consequently losing ground, despite the disappointing kharif crop.
