NEW DELHI. The sesame seed market in India is in celebration mode. Demand has boosted confidence.

Although the market witnessed nominal decreases at the beginning of last week, the prices quickly recovered.

Prices are about to peak
Hulled sesame seeds are currently offered for 1,480 USD/mt CIF Hamburg, the highest price since August. If prices continue to soar it is very possible that they will very soon rise above last year’s peak.

No change in sight
Although the quality and output of the crop were low, the prices remained on a surprisingly low level for quite some time. But with the season and imports from Africa gaining pace the prices have also increased considerably over the last few weeks. Should the kharif crop yield a good production, prices could stabilise until the main harvest.
