NEW DELHI. The Indian sesame seed market is experiencing an absolute all-time low. Traders are hoping that at least the prices are now so low that they cannot drop any further.

Price differences

In fact, Indian sesame seeds are being offered at the same low prices as last week. Whereas hulled sesame seeds are being offered by different traders at a level of 1,430 USD/mt CIF Hamburg, the prices for natural sesame seeds differ considerably. Depending on the supplier, hulled sesame seeds are trading for 1,260-1,340 USD/mt CIF Hamburg.

Neither the prospect of a small summer crop nor the low price level are making Indian sesame seeds attractive to the buyers. Chinese buyers mainly obtain their stocks from Africa.
