Sesame seeds: Prices fall to last year's level

NEW DELHI. Suppliers from five different countries have reportedly won the bids for the sesame seed tender from Suoth Korea. The exporters from India did not perform as well as hoped.

China and Nigeria win most bids

Traders in India were hoping to win at least 50% of the bids and to be able to ship at least 4,650 metric tonnes. In fact, there were only 1,800 mt of sesame, at prices between 1,566 USD/mt and 1,568 USD/mt for premium quality. Instead, Chinese and Nigerian exporters were able to convince with their prices. The latter sold 2,700 mt unpeeled in standard quality for 1,520-1,525 USD/mt.
