NEW DELHI. The weak Indian rupee has caused the export prices for sesame seeds to decline. However, the condition of the crop should prompt rising prices.

Weak rupee

Although the prices for sesame seeds within the domestic market are stable, overseas buyers are profiting from exchange rate fluctuations with prices dropping by 50-80 USD/mt last week. Export demand is nevertheless sluggish since many buyers from Europe, the USA and other countries prefer to wait for the arrival of the new crop. A new tender from South Korea over 12,000 mt should also revive the market at the beginning of October.
