NEU-DELHI. Imports from Africa continue while traders in India require additional amounts to cover demand.

The stocks remaining after the summer harvest of 2016 can just about supply demand on the local market and the quality of the main crop is hardly suitable for exports. To ensure further supply, processors are purchasing sesame seeds from Africa for cleaning and hulling in India.

Hesitant to make predictions
After the rapid increase of prices last week the market in India has now become slightly calmer. Thursday 26 January 2017 is the Day of the Republic in India, a national holiday to celebrate Indias independence. Markets will remain closed on this day.
Due to the current supply situation prices cannot be expected to go down again. But traders dare not speculate how things will continue and advise buyers to stock up now.
