Sesame seeds: Limited supplies

NEW DELHI. According to reports, less sesame seeds have been imported into India over the last few months than expected. In view of the small domestic crop, the consequences are most certainly noticeable.

Imports have been overestimated

For several weeks, the prices for sesame seeds had fallen steadily in India despite the disappointing autumn crop. This has now come to an end for the time being. As market players report around 30,000 mt of sesame seeds were imported from Africa and other regions between October and December - far less than expected. In January, imports are also only estimated 10,000-12,000 mt. Arrivals are in addition decreasing.
