Sesame seeds: India wins bidding contest

NEW DELHI. Contrary to expectations, the exporters in India did surprisingly well in biding for the tender from South Korea.

3,600 metric tonnes from India

The tender was issued for 6,600 metric tonnes of premium and standard sesame seeds. Although market players had intitially anticipated that the exporters in India would not be able to compete with suppliers in Afric, India was nevertheless awarded total of 3,600 metric tonnes. The lowest offer for premium sesame seeds was issued for as little as USD 1,616 per metric tonne, which is even cheaper than the lowest price for standard sesame seeds (USD 1,632 per metric tonne).
