NEU-DELHI. Traders in India still report good purchasing interest from China for African sesame seeds and are rising with the tide of current demand.

Can India bridge the gap with a good summer crop?
Right at the beginning of the week prices for sesame seeds from India were raised another notch. To bridge the supply gap due to the poor quality of the last crop and ensuing stock shortages, large amounts have been imported from Africa to be processed in India. Price developments from now will depend on the decisions growers make concerning the crops they sow for the summer harvest. Although considerably smaller compared to the main harvest these might smooth over the tension in the market and prevent prices from skyrocketing in the next few months.
