NEW DELHI. There is a lack of demand in the sesame seed market. European buyers are increasingly focusing on African rather than Indian goods. Indian exporters therefore hope that the tender will bring new momentum to the market.

Lack of demand in the sesame seed market

The sesame seed market is currently characterised by weak demand. In addition, the significantly increased contamination of Indian sesame seeds with ethylene oxide in the past is causing persistently low interest among European buyers. Sesame seeds from African origins are now in the foreground. Here, prices for hulled sesame seeds, 99.98% purity are at a level of EUR 2.15-2.25/mt FCA Germany. Prices for Indian sesame seeds of the same quality are in some cases a little lower.
