Sesame seeds: India eyes up competitors

NEW DELHI. This week, the new crop arrived in Nizamabad. Arrivals from other regions are expected to start in May to June. Traders in India are eying up the competition from Tanzania and Mozambique, where the new crop will arrive in May. Production estimates currently are highly decisive for pricing.

Production to rise in Africa

In view of production data from Africa and other growing regions in India, price increases are currently ruled out. White sesame production in Mozambique and Tanzania is expected to increase by 10,000-15,000 mt this year. According to recent estimates in China, production in Tanzania is 120,000-130,000 mt and in Mozambique 30,000-40,000 mt.
