NEW DELHI. Sesame seed traders are focussing more and more on the summer crop, and meanwhile, the first estimates have been released.

At about 25,000 mt, the upcoming crop will be significantly bigger than last year, but compared to the previous years (up to 50,000 mt), it is still relatively small.

Expectations not fulfilled

After the end of the Korean sesame seed call for tenders, market players had hoped that the prices would rise. Higher demand is also expected from China, as the consumption of sesame oil and sauces increases there in the summer, and therefore also the demand for sesame seeds. But the prices were spurred only briefly. Traders and buyers are waiting for the new crop, which is causing the prices to drop again. Therefore, the further price development strongly depends on the demand.
