The business of making White Sesame from Red Sesame Seeds by chemical treatment was disclosed in News Paper of Bhaskar.  The copy given to the collector, Pollution Control Board (PCB) said- No NOC, all illegal running Violation of this act. Action will be taken to stop the spleen factories under section 33C of the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Act, 1974 and Section 31A of Air Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1981.

In whole India there are about 90 to 100 factories which are processing Sesame Seeds and making white (polished) Sesame Seeds, 9 factories in Gwalior area in state of Madhya Pradesh have been reported  an illegal. On Monday, the Madhay Pradesh state Pollution Control Board has issued the letter to the Chief General Manager of the power company to cut all the electricity connection of all the factories. Earlier the electricity company was written but no action was taken: NP Singh, Regional Officer, Pollution Control Board. They cannot be allowed to work. The Board has also sent information to the District Collector & Corporation Commissioner.

From November to January, Sesame Seeds has a season, in which the consumption of sesame is consumed. Total business in this area for one season is more than US$160 million. The reason for the washing of Red Sesame with chemical such as caustic soda, hydrogen peroxide, bleaching powder to get white polished sesame seeds & get more profit.

After washing Brown/Red Sesame from Bengal with chemicals and using Hydrogen peroxide Sesame Seeds becomes white but whole process release toxic water which is harmful to environment & human being.

West Bengal's Red/Brown Sesame is available at price US$600 per mt. In the wholesale market, the processed Sesame (white) is being sold in the wholesale market US$1150 per mt. and after sortex process, the price becomes US$1350 per mt.

MD Medicine Dr. Ajay Pal Singh said that the hydrogen peroxide, bleaching powder and caustic soda are harmful for chemical health. By their presence in the composting method, it is possible to have liver kidney failure gradually. There is more danger for children. Dangerous water released with caustic soda, hydrogen peroxide, spoils the soil by going into the ground and also bad for underground water.

There is also a large stock of chemicals stored in the factories. Wondering that the administration does not see it all? Or is this game of collusion?

The above actions of the government will make the following effects:

  1. Factories will use chemical free process
  2. Exports for the time being reduce little, there will not be much impact over all.
  3. Use better machinery, cost of production will go higher.
  4. Better products for Exports as well as Domestic market.
