NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD. Indian sesame seed farmers are busy sowing the kharif crop. So far, however, the acreages in the main growing regions are well down on last year.

Prices are easing

Now that the price driver has disappeared from the market with the conclusion of the last sesame seed tender, prices have eased somewhat this week. Prices are being supported by the currently moderate export demand. Between January and July 2024, India exported a total of 158,377 mt of sesame seeds, around 1.4% less than this time last year. The main buyers this year were South Korea (+18.4% to 18,957 mt) and Vietnam (+33.8% to 10,864 mt) as well as Russia (+42.6% to 10,705 mt) and the United States (+1.4% to 10,679 mt).
