Sesame seeds: first new crop arrivals

NEW DELHI/ABUJA. Arrivals are about to pick up for sesame seeds in India. Harvesting is underway in Nigeria and in Somalia. Demand is up in the EU as recent import statistics show.

Early arrivals in India

Sesame seeds have slumped in the past few weeks and the situation is expected to remain unchanged until the end of the year. The new crop will start arriving at the end of October. Minor rises can normally be seen during the Diwali festival, which will be celebrated from 30 October right through until November and in the winter season. Given that stocks are high and pricing competitive in other producing countries a notable appreciation is not expected.
