NEW DELHI. Market players reckon that the sesame seed market is totally crazy. The prices continue to surge. With China in a buying frenzy there is no end in sight.

Further price rises in India

In India prices have jumped by 60 USD/mt since yesterday with hulled sesame seeds, 99.95% now trading for 1,810 USD/mt CIF Hamburg – a price not seen in two and a half years. The smaller crop (-10%) and the tender from Korea are partly responsible for the current upsurge in prices with the main reasons being the competition from Africa and the demand situation in China. Prices in Bangladesh have also risen by 50-70 USD/mt.
