MOSCOW. Production declined to a ten-year low in Russia last year. Curiously, however, rye flour production is on the rise.

Acreage declines by 60%

Russia has witnessed a decline in rye production. Last year's production ranges at 1.5 million tonnes. This is a 20% decline on 2018 and the lowest figure observed over the last ten years. The decline is driven by a cut back in acreage, which dropped by 108,400 hectares to 871,000 hectares in 2019. In addition, it should be noted that acreage has steadily declined over the last five years. Acreage has, in fact, been cut by nealy 60% over the last ten years.
