In recent years, farmers started to allocate substantial acreages of land for the cultivation of the crop because foreign demand has been strong and prices have been following an upward trend. However, developments in the Black sea basin have always influenced local market sentiments, which in turn affect prices and exported volumes. According to local authorities, exports via Varna seaport, by the end of last week, reached 133,597 mt, down by 30.9% on yearly basis.
This year, estimates of Ukraine’s aggregate output, according to the recent USDA report on World Agricultural Production, are set to have reached 2.10 mmt, leading last year’s by 68%. Such a bumper harvest, which has already been characterized by a high export rate of rapeseed, dose influence local prices although local quantities produced represent an iota if compared to the substantial outputs of the largest producers in the region.
