Raisins: success story at risk

MALAYER. Exports from Malayer have surged by 21% between April and December 2019. However, the recent political tensions between Iran and the US may spell an end to this success story.

 

Revenues rise by 27%

Malayer has exported more than 14,000 metric tonnes of sultanas and green and golden raisins between April and December 2019, which is a hike of 21% over 2018. The rise is attributed to favourable weather conditions, which sparked an increase in production and promoted quality. Revenues even increased by 27% to USD 17.4 million and average export prices jumped from USD 1.17 per kg in 2018 to USD 1.24 in 2019. Malayer raisins account for as much as 28% of Iran’s tota
