Raisins: shift in prices

KASHMAR. Adverse weather conditions have severely impacted grape production in Iran in recent years. In Fars province, which is the country’s largest grape producing region, the cold weather in spring and drought have reduced yields from 25 metric tonnes per hectare to 15 metric tonnes per hectare over the last few years. Traders meanwhile report a change in price.

Drought is problematic

Annual fresh grape production ranges at 3.191 million metric tonnes in Iran. The four largest producing provinces include Fars, Hamedan and Qazvin and Khorasan Razavi. While drought and drought-like conditions are a major problem in the Fars province, the vineyards in the Hamedan province received sufficient rainfall this year and grape production is expected to climb by 5% to 406,370 metric tonnes.
