110,000 mt expected
In southern Peru, the drought last year meant that quinoa production in the growing areas was lower. Persistent rainfall during the harvest period is also said to have affected the quality last year, while pests were also a problem. Nationwide, the crop totalled 70,336 mt. Larger acreages and a more favourable weather created better conditions this year. Overall, the quinoa crop in Peru is expected to reach 110,000 mt in 2024, with the result in the Puno, Ayacucho and Junín growing regions expected to increase by a whopping 85-90% year-on-year, according to the experts at Chelmer Foods.
Quinoa prices have declined on the Indian market. While they were still at USD 918/mt FOB India last week, they are currently trading at USD 871/mt FOB.
