Too expensive despite price correction
According to their own statements, some Chinese exporters are again receiving significantly more enquiries for pumpkin seed shipments, also from Europe. Nevertheless, sales hardly take place. Some traders have lowered their prices several times this week, so that pumpkin seeds, shine skin, grade A are now sold from USD 2.87 per kg CFR Hamburg. Other suppliers are sticking to their official offers, but are willing to negotiate if there is concrete interest.
In particular, good sales at the domestic market and lower production volumes had led to a rapid and significant increase in prices of grade A kernels this season. Even after the price correction, shine skins, grade A are still a good USD 500 per metric tonne more expensive than last year at this time, while grade AA kernels are slowly approaching last year's level. A similar development can be observed for GWS seeds.

Speculating on organic goods
The sale of organic pumpkin seeds is also difficult this season, but for different reasons. As Chinese organic goods do not meet EU standards, traders are turning to customers from the USA, among others, with their offers. Meanwhile, the first price indications for organic pumpkin seeds from this year's crop are already circulating in the market: organic GWS kernels, grade A are at a level of USD 3.13 per kg CIF Hamburg and organic shine skins should be available for USD 3.14 per kg in the new season. However, for most exporters it is too early to commit to prices and they put their customers off until August/September.
