BEIJING. The Chinese pumpkin seed market attracts speculators who hope to make a big catch. For foreign buyers, however, prices are already at a six-year high due to the freight rates.

Chaos in the commodity market

Market players had recently expressed fears that speculators could intervene in the market as soon as the farmgate prices for Chinese pumpkin seeds declined. This fear is now said to have been confirmed earlier than expected.
