Pumpkin seeds: speculators as price drivers

DALIAN. Since a large part of the still available raw kernels is now in the hands of speculators, they are significantly involved in the price development. Currency fluctuations, however, also play an important role.

Contrary to buyers' hopes, farmgate prices for Chinese shine skins have risen again compared to last week and are now at CNY 17.5/kg. There is currently little trading activity in the domestic market for roasted pumpkin kernels, and exporters are also talking about weak demand from overseas. Many suppliers are running out of stock and trying to secure goods for their existing contracts; speculators see this as an opportunity to drive up prices. They are in possession of a large part of the commodites that
