... risen by more than 20% over last year. Coupled with the carry-overs from the current season, market players reckon that supplies will meet demand in 2020/2021. Traders expect grade AA shine skin kernels to trade at USD 3.00 per kg CFR Hamburg at the start of the new season. Although such a price ranges below the prices quoted at the start of the 2019/2020 season, they are higher than the price level of USD 2.80-2.90 per kg CFR Hamburg quoted in 2018.
Export demand leaves much to be desired at present, which is certainly also linked to the coronavirus pandemic. Traders, however, anticipate that the easing of restrictions in countries such as Germany will be accompanied by a rise in buying interest. Domestic demand can only stabilise the market to a limited extent, which is why market prices have been revised downwards.

GWS kernel sowing is down
The are sown for GWS kernels is said to range lower than last year. Despite the declien in acreage for this variety, which is nearly grown exclusively for the export market, the prices for AA grade GWS range much lower than for AA grade Shine Skins, thereby reversing the trend in recent years this has been reversed. Market participants speculate that this year's new crop may not be sufficient to meet demand. Only in the coming months will it become clear how the crop and, above all, the demand situation will actually develop in the wake of the corona pandemic.
