Pumpkin seeds: prices remain at 6-year high

BEIJING. Chinese pumpkin kernels are currently more expensive than they have been for a long time. Even without taking into account the horrendous increase in freight prices that started almost a year ago, prices for both pumpkin shine skins GWS kernels have reached a 6-year high.

Domestic demand is low

The high prices for Chinese pumpkin seeds are not only reducing buying interest from overseas. Domestic processors are also hesitating in view of the costs and are switching to cheaper alternatives instead of passing on the price increase to the consumers. Farmgate prices for shine skins have stabilised at a level of CNY 17.5/kg for the time being and export prices are also unchanged from last week.
