DALIAN. In spite of the holidays around the Chinese New Year several suppliers of pumpkin seeds have been available for a chat about further price developments.

Attractive alternatives
Due to the lack of trading activity, prices have remained unchanged this week. Unless there is an increase in demand from the USA and the EU, traders assume that prices will go down again after the holidays. Since prices are already on a very low level there is not much room for further reductions – a maximum of 200-300 USD/mt. Farmers are already coping with losses. Chinese pumpkin seeds, GWS, Grade A, are as cheap as they were last in January 2008. For farmers this might be a reason to change to more profitable agricultural products such as corn and sunflower seeds for the crops of 2017.
