DALIAN. Closures of cultivation areas due to rising infection levels and the resulting commodity shortages have pushed up farmgate prices. In addition, speculators, who had a major impact on the market last year, are now entering the scene.

Commodity prices on an upward trend

Slowly but surely, the increases in commodity prices hoped for by growers seem to be materialising. Compared to last week, prices for shine skins have climbed from CNY 16.8 to CNY 17.2/kg, and GWS kernels are now trading at CNY 16.5/kg instead of CNY 16.2. Chinese roasters have become more interested in buying shine skins, which has led to an increase in domestic demand.
