DALIAN. Prices on the Chinese pumpkin seed market continue to fall due to a lack of demand. Meanwhile, freight rates are soaring again.

Prices decrease

In view of the steady decline in demand both on the domestic market and overseas, prices on the Chinese pumpkin seed market are continuing their downward trend of recent weeks. Hot weather conditions are forecast for the coming months, and suppliers do not expect demand to increase in the near future, so there is no reason to expect price increases in the near future either. On the contrary, market players expect prices to continue to fall for the time being, which is why they are trying to reduce their stocks as quickly as possible; the increased supply should in turn fuel the price falls even more.

Freight rates represent a major challenge for exporters, as shipping companies are currently increasing their prices. This is likely to have a major impact on CFR prices. Pumpkin seeds, shine skin, grade A currently cost USD 2,950/mt CFR EMP, while GWS kernels, grade A are trading at USD 3,460/mt CFR EMP.
