Pumpkin seeds: Chinese New Year lends some support to market

BEIJING. Traders report that preparations for Chinese New Year, which starts on 1 February, are supporting the domestic pumpkin seed market. Export prices have, by contrast, declined.

Further declines possible

Shine skins are trading lower with raw kernel prices ranging at CNY 17.50/kg. The domestic market is bustling with activities and processors are very busy in the run up Chinese New Year. High demand is supporting the market. As most companies will be closed around new year prices should remain firm. Demand is, however, expected to decline after business resumes again, which should also prompt prices to fall in the next few months.
