TEHERAN. The market for pistachio kernels is waiting for reliable information from Iran.

As the largest exporter for pistachios, Iran has a fixed position in worldwide trade with the product. Due to the political situation, it is very difficult for interested parties to assess the offered quantities and prices from Iran. According to unverified reports, the harvest in 2016 was slightly smaller than in 2015. Due to favourable weather conditions, however, the quality is better than in 2015.
The previous year’s stock out of crop 2015 is projected to suffice into the first quarter of 2017, before produce out of crop 2016 reaches the market.

Prices and demand steady

A marginal reduction in quantity is reported from the markets which resulted in minimal price increases in the beginning of October. The demand for pistachios in Europe is steady. The price level for the market in 2017 is expected to be much like that of the current year.
