TUR/Toor/Pigeon Peas: Crubs Import to support Farmers

Government has issued notifications on Toor / Tur (Pigeon Peas) Imports:

India government in a bid to support farmers after sharp fall in Tur prices notified today to ban import of Tur and Tur dal.

According to the latest official data, the total sowing of pulses has been recorded so far. According to the data, only about 40 thousand tonnes of Tur dal can be imported in the next 9 months, since the import of 160,000 tonnes has been done.

Pulses Mills Association have welcomed the ban on import of Tur/Toor/Pigeon :

All India Dal Mill Association, Traders, etc. have welcomed the decision of government. This will not only benefit the farmers and they will get the right price for their crop but also the new pulse industry. Dal industry was facing deficit due to record production.

This decision of government will increased the prices by US$60 to US$100 per mt. in tur dal soon. The farmers will get their direct benefit.  Till July, 1.2 million bags of pulses have been imported in the country, which include tur, yellow peas, Australian gram and lentils.

Association has raise issued of Exports pulses before the government through other news reporting.  It is been given a letter to government by association of pulses to open the export of pulses.  If the export of pulses opens, it will be benefited to pulses growers, pulse industry along with this business man and this will be a new achievement for all.

Notifications issued by Government of India :

Policy Condition 2 of Notification states that if any government has an import agreement with any country, then this notification will not be applicable in that condition.

The Government of India has negotiated the uninterrupted and duty-free rectangle of pulses with Burma and Australia, this means that notification will not apply to Burma (Myanmar) and Australia.

My personal thought says that the importer will sell their goods in a high price and the businessman will be trapped as 10% of the import duty was done.

Recently there is agreement between Mozambique and India for Pulses imports to India, which will also going to affect. The picture is not yet clear it will get clear in few days to come.

Burma Lemon Tur Gains sharply After Tur/Tur Dal Import Ban. MUMBAI (Commodities control) - Burma lemon Tur edged higher by at US$80 to 100 per mt. at the Mumbai Pulses market on Saturday after government announcement to ban of Tur /Toor imports.

According to trade sources, importers those who have already received bill of lading are eligible to receive their consignments, whereas doubt is lingering on rest of the consignments and orders.

A trader from Burma said "Sellers are active in local market, but no rates are available as buyers are sidelined from any deals."
