Peanuts: good prospects for the Indian winter crop

NEW DELHI. In India, sowing for the winter crop is imminent and so far the forecasts are encouraging. There have been slight harvest delays in Argentina and the weather is playing a decisive role in all growing countries.

Prices continue to decline

As expected, prices on the Indian peanut market have also fallen slightly this week. However, the market for peanut oil is receiving support as prices for other edible oils such as soybean- and sunflower oil are climbing, dragging peanut oil with them. China has already increased its purchases of peanut oil from India.

Sowing for the 2024 Indian winter crop is set to begin in mid-June and farmers are optimistic about the upcoming planting season. Despite the ongoing price declines, prices are still above the minimum support price,
