NEW DELHI/BRASÍLIA. The Gulfood fair in Dubai has not brought Indian peanut suppliers the sales they had hoped for, and pest infestations are causing problems for farmers. In Brazil, the prospects for the new crop are good – around 10% has been harvested so far.

Low edible oil imports provide support

The record supply in India has ensured that prices have fallen again slightly compared to last week. Exporters are also concerned that international buyers will soon switch to goods from Argentina, as no export tax is levied there. The acreage for the next crop will be lower and there is news of pest infestations in the South Indian growing regions – two factors that could stabilise prices in the future. Indian participants at the Gulfood fair in Dubai report that purchases there have not been as high as hoped.
