IZMIR. Last week for the 10th time the Ekoloji, the trade fair for the organic sector in Turkey, took place in Izmir. Not everyone was satisfied.

Some market participants from the Turkish organic food raw materials sector reported that the fair could not achieve the desired success. The number of visitors remained below expectations. The market participants consider, among other things, the timing of the event to be unfavourable. While the fair often took place in April over the past few years, it was simply too late in mid-May. In addition, it was unfavourable to place the fair in the middle of Ramadan.

On the domestic market, organic products are relatively unpopular. 80% of Turkish organic products are delivered abroad. Organic dried fruits make up a large part of organic exports and, apart from Europe, the USA is the most important sales market in this sector.
