Mustard seeds: Russia cuts back in niche prodcuts

OTTAWA/MOSCOW. Analysts reckon that Russion will cut back in production this year. The country is also refraining from extending production of other products.

Production set to decline after record year
Last year, Russia harvested around 160,000 mt on 334,000 ha. While acreage more than doubled over 2017, the average yield fell from 0.55-0.60 mt/ha to 0.45-0.50 mt/ha. This, nevertheless resulted in a record production with stable prices. Acreage has, however, declined this year.

The prospects for flaxseed are also not very encouraging as the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (ICAR) reckons that acreage will remain similar in size to last year's 750,000 ha. Acreage is also to remain similar in size in Kazaksth
