Millet: good prospects in China

DALIAN/KYIV. By the end of May, millet farmers in Ukraine had sown 75% of the planned acreage. Meanwhile, larger areas under cultivation and good growing conditions in China give hope for an increase in production.

Larger acreage in China

Just under three quarters of the Ukrainian millet seed had been sown by the end of May, with 63,600 ha of the planned 85,300 ha sown so far. Ukrainian farmers have sown a total of 5.505 million ga of cereals and pulses this spring, which is 96% of the planned area.

In the Chinese growing regions, growers have sown more millet than last year. Thanks to sufficient moisture, market players are hoping for an increase in production in the coming autumn. However, demand for Chinese millet is currently weak. Hulled millet is being traded at
