Market prices out of hand

Chaos once again presides in Turkey’s hazelnut market. Not only have quality issues emerged at the start of the harvest with a lot of empty in-shell hazelnuts arriving but many companies also made contracts over thousands of tonnes of hazelnuts before the harvest started and the TMO announced its prices. While the TMO bid of TRY 82/kg for Levant quality nuts was initially considered the ceiling for prices and free market rates started off at TRY 75.00/kg, they soon rose to TRY 77.00/kg and have now surged to TRY 84.00/kg.
