ORDU. The EU has issued alerts for deliveries from Turkey. Aflatoxin poses a problem.

The EU Commission issues aflatoxin alerts

According to the RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed) three to four deliveries from Turkey into the EU had to be turned down. The aflatoxin contamination was too high and the last delivery was turned down on 24 February. It is, however, not known which quantity and which crop is affected.

Promising outlook

The promising crop has prompted interest in purchasing the old and new crop, which is why the prices have risen. Market participants reckon that the current developments regarding the Turkish lira will make it easier for the farmers and their buyers to agree on acceptable prices. Traders even think that it is possible that higher yields will compensate for the low raw nut prices if no frost damages occur. The next few weeks will be decisive, especially since the risk of frost will be over towards the end of April and the referendum will be over. The purchasing behaviour of Ferrero will also have an impact.
