LODZ. The Kazakh flaxseed farmers have now also begun to prepare their fields for sowing.

However, there are no predictions yet regarding the cultivated area, neither from Russia nor from Kazakhstan.

Market players are reporting few new requests, so that the prices remain stable this week as well.

Polish cleaning plants have invested in larger facilities. The higher processing capacity will make the demand increase in the coming season and more buyers can be supplied more rapidly.

Smaller US crop

According to a survey by the USDA, the cultivated area for flaxseed in the USA will shrink for the second year in a row. Compared to last year, the area will be reduced by 16% to 313,000 ha; in 2015, it was about 460,000 ha. Last year, good yields per hectare were able to compensate for the smaller area. If the yields now shrink again to the five-year average, the USDA expects the crop to be up to 60,000 mt smaller than in 2016.
