KIEV/LODZ. Beside other East European countries such as Russia and Kazakhstan, the Ukraine does not have much say on the international flaxseed market – until now.

Planned exports of 65,000 mt
In the first nine months of the current season, the Ukraine exported 56,000 mt of flaxseed, an increase of 55% compared to the same period last year. The record crop of 2016 made this possible. Almost 90,000 mt of flaxseed were produced on 68,000 ha of land last year in the Ukraine. According to the APK-Inform Agency, the total export potential for the 2016/17 season is of 65,000 mt.

Will prices soon rise?
Market players report that Polish traders are currently purchasing more 2016 commodities from Russia. It remains to be seen if this is a sign for increasing prices in the new season. Statements from traders and farmers in the countries of origin differ greatly, from very good to very poor prospects, anything is possible. Offers for prompt deliveries remain unchanged.
