Flaxseed: production to rise slightly in 2023

OTTAWA/NUR-SULTAN. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is confident that flaxseed production will rise by 5% in 2023/2024. Exports are, however, not going quite as well as official estimates suggest.

New estimates in Canada

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada estimates production at 474,000 mt in the current season, which is 37% up on last year. Total supplies range at 569,000 mt, which is also 36% up on last year. This should prompt average prices to fall by 42% to CAD 700/mt. Considering that Canada's exports have been rather disappointing this season so far, it is hardly possible that the will climb by 71% to 375,00 mt on last year as Agriculture and Agri-Food anticipates.
