Flaxseed: producers hold back

NUR-SULTAN. Until recently, flaxseed exports from Kazakhstan to China were not possible as the producers lacked the necessary certifications. This, however, changed last year.

Chinese New Year cripples trade

In October China licensed 25 flaxseed producers in Kazakhstan and shipments commenced. In addition, 60 barley and 20 soy producers now have the necessary certificates. Although exports to China were in full swing until recently trading activities will most certainly come to a standstill in the run up to Chinese New Year, which will be celebrated from 25 January to 10 February. Farmgate prices for brown flaxseed with a 97% purity are expected to decline to EUR 320-330 per metric tonne FCA Kazakhstan. They currently range at EUR 345 per
