Flaxseed: Offers exceed last year’s level

LODZ. Kazakh producers are demanding higher prices for raw seeds from the 2018 flaxseed crop than last year, but traders are nevertheless optimistic for further price development.

It could be worse
The raw seed price for the 2018/19 Eastern European flaxseed crop is currently at 250 EUR/mt FCA Kazakhstan, market participants report. Thus, although offers are above last year's level of 235 EUR/mt FCA, they are not so high that a serious reduction in crop size should be expected. According to rumours from the producing countries, the production of flaxseed from Eastern Europe in 2018/19 is expected to be 20-30% lower due to unfavourable weather conditions.
