WARSAW. Yawning boredom has taken hold of the conventional flaxseed market, but things are really taking off on the organic sector.

Russia is the better alternative
Prices for conventionally grown flaxseed from Eastern Europe are still at the same level as the week before. Since Kazakh raw flaxseed is at least as expensive as the Russian raw produce, flaxseed is rather uninteresting for Central European buyers, as well as Western European buyers. In addition to the price itself, shipments from Kazakhstan are also saddled with higher freight charges.
Overall, it is very quiet on the market. Time and again there are inquiries, but these do not always lead to the conclusion of contracts. Flaxseed, which has been re-cleaned in Poland has been offered on a level of 0.46 EUR/kg DDP Germany for a while now.

Analyses have priority
Organic flaxseed, on the other hand, is a different story altogether. Demand is so strong, that the delivery time for it is currently at about six weeks. Last year, it was noticed rather late that flaxseed, which was declared as “organic”, was polluted with pesticides. In order not to repeat this mistake, traders examine the produce as soon as it is delivered to them. That makes the conclusion of long-term contracts difficult.
